Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are special clubs within companies designed to make sure every employee feels included and supported, especially those who might feel left out or not fully represented in the workplace. These groups focus on the needs of specific communities in a company, offering a more tailored and enjoyable work experience than general company programs.

Let's explore why ERGs are so important. They are there for groups of employees who have often not been given as much attention or fairness in the workplace. ERGs help make sure everyone at work is treated equally, their voices are heard, and they feel valued. This not only makes the workplace fairer for everyone but also leads to better team spirit, more new ideas, and better work results, which is good for the whole company.

A look at big companies shows how common and varied ERGs are. In our study of the 2022 Fortune 500 Companies, we found that almost 8 out of 10 have ERGs. We also noticed that all of the top 60 revenue producing Fortune 500 companies have ERGs.

ERGs have been around since the 1960s and are usually run by employees who do this extra work because they care about their community, not for extra pay. People join ERGs for many reasons, but most often to make friends at work, feel a stronger sense of belonging, and make their workplace better for people like them.

Although ERGs have been a part of companies for a long time, they keep changing and facing new challenges. This is where The ERG Movement steps in. We aim to make ERGs better and more effective. We focus on making sure these groups really support their members and make a big difference, all while being smart about how they use their time and resources.
